After a well attended and spirited book launch at City Hall on the Lagos Island, it was time to promote Possessed. What better way to do this than to bring the book to the people it was written for and about, Lagosians of every creed? Thus Mr. Olasupo Shasore and the CLRN team hopped on the book tour bus.
The first stop on the tour was Jazzhole, part of Glendora Books. The bookstore located at 198 Awolowo Road Ikoyi was an ideal setting for the reading with its rustic intimate feel. Earlier in the day, on Sunday 2nd November, 2014, the CLRN team assembled, preparing the venue for about 50 expected guests.
The event was scheduled to begin at 4:30pm and a few guests began to trickle in before the time. On the speakers was cool jazz music, provided by Mr Tejuosho, part owner of Jazzhole. Later, some Fela was played to fit the mood. The guests checked out the large and eclectic collection of CDs, vinyl records and books on display and soon, the reading began, after a brief introduction of the author and the book. Mr Shasore wanted an intimate, friendly, open discussion. He made the guests feel at home as he read from six points in the book, welcoming lively debate, questions and telling warm, detailed stories, helping to paint a perfect portrait f Lagos as it was between 1861 and 1906.
Watch out for more posts on the Possessed book tour!
